Iowa's AI FutureConvening a statewide Iowa AI Coalition

Working name

Iowa AI Coalition

A working name for a statewide table that does not exist yet. Leaders of Iowa's existing AI groups are invited to help build it, shape it, and run it together.

Draft for Joe Monahan to edit. This page is placeholder copy, not a finished statement.

Why Iowa needs one

Draft for Joe to edit. Iowa's AI work is scattered across companies, campuses, farms, schools, and the Capitol. A statewide coalition would give those efforts a shared table. The aim is not a new group with one owner. It is a coalition its members co-found and lead.

Who it brings together

Draft. The first ask is to leaders of groups already working on AI in Iowa: help build this, and help run it. Individuals are welcome too. No one is being asked to join someone else's organization.

  • Businesses

Companies building AI tools, and companies trying to use them, including manufacturers, insurers, and main-street employers.

  • Universities and colleges

Public universities, private colleges, and community colleges already teaching or researching AI.

  • Farmers and agriculture

Producers, co-ops, and farm groups weighing tools for fields, livestock, and markets.

  • Lawmakers and local officials

Legislators, state agencies, and city or county leaders writing rules for data centers, schools, and public services.

  • Community groups

Civic organizations, labor groups, and neighbors who want a say in how AI shows up in Iowa towns.

How it would work

  1. Leaders of existing Iowa AI groups, and others who want a seat, raise a hand to help build the coalition.
  2. Joe Monahan convenes the first conversations and keeps a simple list of who wants in. He facilitates. He does not chair the coalition or speak for it.
  3. The people in the room decide how it is led, who co-founds it, and how it is run. Membership, leadership, and funding are theirs to settle.
  4. It starts as conversations and public briefings, not a new agency.
  5. The coalition may later move to its own site at iowaaicoalition.org. Until then, this page is the gathering place.
